Anencephaly- Our Pregnancy Diagnosis

Today started out as a normal day. Then turned into the worst Day of our lives.- I went in to my doc today for a regular OB appt. She was great then talked to me and asked if I would like to have the early US for down syndrome. I said sure! I was able to get into the US immediately. I found out the most devastating news I have ever heard.

My baby has no brain. My baby will not live. I have the option to terminate or have complications with pregnancy later or..possible hemorrhage during birth and as soon as I go into labor my baby will never have a chance at life. The correct term for this is Anencephaly. We are going on the 13th to get the process started. I feel dead inside. <- Please read our update. We will be carrying our baby to term as long as it will allow us!

If you are wondering more about this condition, please refer to this link

We will have a rough time dealing with this situation. I do not have many more words. Please keep us in your thoughts. I feel like I am in a horror movie.

  2. Praying for you and your family. I don't know if this will help, but a friend of a friend of mine went through this last year, and she has a blog that told a lot about it. The blog is http://stickydoorknobs.blogspot.com/

I don't know if this is something that may help you, but want you to know you are not alone, as I'm sure you must feel, and maybe you could get some comfort from possibly talking to someone who has been through this.

  3. Hi Brenda - I'm so sorry for the news that you and your family have received; it is devastating. We found out in October that our little girl has the same condition. I am currently 37 weeks pregnant and expect her to make an arrival by 3/4/13.

If you have not yet joined, there is a private Facebook group for mothers of Anencephalic babies; there are mothers in all stages of this journey, those who have terminated and those who have carried. It is a wonderful support.(If you have difficulty finding it, just leave me a message on my blog and I'll have you invited.) I also invite you to my own blog if you are interested, www.oneangelsjourney.blogspot.com.

Above all, know that you are not alone and there are a lot of moms there to help you through this no matter what you decide. I would really encourage you to take advantage of the support that exists. Hugs and prayers for you and family. -Katie
