I am so excited to share with you one special part of my trip that I took not long ago. I went with a group of awesome bloggers to meet Eric Goldberg, the animator for the Genie in Aladdin. This guy is a legend. Let me share with you a little more about him so that you understand what I am talking about.  Eric Goldberg is an American animator, film director and voice actor. He is known for his work at both Walt Disney Animation Studios and Warner Bros. Animation. Some of his work includes: The Animator for the Genie in Aladdin, later the lead animator on Phil in Hercules,  co-director of Disney's 1995 feature Pocahontas, Tom & Jerry, The Fox and The Hound 2, The Princess and the Frog, Wreck It Wralf, and many many more. He is a legend. Just amazing. Aladdin was his first film that he started on when he started working at Disney Animation Studios! On our trip we were able to get an amazing presentation from him about his role in the movie Aladdin. We learned that the inspiration of Genie came from Al Hershwild. Whom is known for his curves and crazy lines in his work.
One of the special things that we learned about was his experiences working with Robin Williams, the voice of Genie in Aladdin. As he talked about Robin Williams, you could see the emotion in his face and hear it in his voice. He talked about how hilarious it was working with him and how many times he had everyone laughing and cracking up. He also shared with us that Robin Williams would do the most hilarious voices when recording and they decided to add those in the movie.
Above is a beautiful picture that Eric Goldberg created in Robin Williams' memory.
He also walked us through learning how to draw Genie! It was such a cool experience being taught how! Below is my version. Not too bad if I say so myself.
He shared with us that there were so many out takes that did not make it on to the film, however, you can find those on the Aladdin Blu-ray.
I am humbled and so honored that I was able to meet this legend. I also received an amazing picture drawn by him and gifted to me! He signed it as well. I also received Genie! How cute is this? You can Pre-order Aladdin Diamond Edition on Amazon today! It comes out October 13th. Follow Aladdin on social media below to stay up to date with the latest!
