I have seen DNA tests for humans and DNA tests for dogs but when I seen there was one available for our kitty Won Ton, I was stoked! I had NO clue they had one out there. Brandon has always wondered why he looks like a baby panther and with Basepaws we can get an in depth look at his DNA to see what he is! When the sample arrives at their facility in LA, they take the DNA out of it with a chemical extraction process. Your cat’s DNA contains more than 20,000 genes, which are spelled out in a unique genetic code that is around 2,700,000,000 letters (nucleotide bases) long. Basepaws takes this DNA and uses sequencing machines to read and record these letters.

How does it work?

It comes with a prepaid envelope, two strips that you get hair from and some cute swag!  When you get your kit, grab the numbers and register it immediately! Then you simply place the tape on your cat with the tag facing the tail. Give him a good rub and remove, repeat with the other.

Won Ton wasn't happy about it but we were able to get it done! After you are done- place them facing in toward each other in the envelope and drop it in the mail! Your results will be in within 2-6 months. They extract the DNA from the roots of the hair samples provides!! Pretty neat if you ask me!
